Like humans, dogs are never too old to learn and start living a happy, confident and fulfilled life.

Our unrivalled dog training results prove that with patience, understanding and commitment, dogs learn what MANNERS and RESPECT are needed to live in harmony with their owners and as such can become the best version of themselves - even during their "teenager period!!".

Meet the  NBDT team

Owner and primary trainer:

My name is Jo (Joanne) and I have in excess of 20+ years experience working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments, formerly as a professional dog handler (Hampshire and Thames Valley Police - now retired ) and latterly as a pet dog behaviourist and  trainer.

I have 6 dogs of my own and live and breath dog training!!

I am passionate about what I do and will work with you, either on a 1:2:1 basis, or in a group setting, to help you to understand your dog and achieve a happy, obedient and well behaved dog in and outside of your home.

I use positive, reward based methods of training and my ethos is that dogs must have MANNERS and RESPECT and be afforded the same by their owners!

CHRIS MORSE - Trainer

It looks like I am coming out of retirement and very excited to be doing so and involved with Jo in New Beginnings Dog Training.

I have spent my lifetime working with dogs. I have worked in quarantine kennels; run my own boarding kennels and cattery; vet nursed; taught at Bicton College of Agriculture and Cornwall College in their Schools of Animal Care.

I ran pet obedience classes; flyball; taught and competed in Heelwork to Music (HTM) and agility, but now concentrate on all of these purely for fun only.

As part of behavioural consultation work with private clients, I worked in a Plymouth Rescue Centre rehabilitating rescue dogs with various problems so that they could be sent off to their new homes.

I was a founder member of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and over the years I have attended numerous training and instructing courses with various behaviourists and trainers, taking the opportunity to work with the best and to keep up with new training techniques and research into canine behaviour and physiology, which has come on in leaps and bounds

In 2009 I studied for a Canine Massage Diploma and have spent the intervening years teaching and assessing students on the same course and rewriting both the canine and equine courses to Awarding Body standards. The qualification included working on post op and post injury rehabilitation, and I have continued my interest by further courses on proprioception, body building and core strengthening techniques and exercises.

I am currently studying for a Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) Advocate qualification. I took over as Chair of The Association of Complimentary Animal Therapies (ACAT) in 2012.

All of my dogs have been re-homers and they have been the very best of teachers over the years as most came with behavioural and/or physical problems.

One of my dog behaviourist teacher’s sayings was ‘Control the game, control the dog’ which made a huge impression. It makes my day when a dog comes away with a waggy tail and their carer with a big grin. Even better when the dog is grinning too!
